Every first Thursday of each month, from 7 to 8 pm, a writer in residence opens a window on his or her work, universe and motives, in a free form of intervention. An hour of carte blanche to share, followed by an aperitif.

In this Thursday in Residence, Angolan writer Israel Campos will explore how the intersections between history and memory inform his fiction writing practice. Coming from a country marked by a complex historical past, where the anti-colonial struggle against Portugal was followed by a devastating civil war, Campos writes contemporary Angola with its past as a constant and inescapable backdrop.

Having grown up in a journalistic environment, he developed a deep interest in the ways collective memory preserves the echoes of wars he did not experience firsthand, but whose legacies remain present in everyday life.

In this talk, Campos will discuss his latest short story project, Baloiço de Memória, as well as excerpts from his upcoming novel, currently being written during his residency at the Foundation.
