Biography

Zoltán Danyi was born in 1972 in Senta, ex-Yugoslavia, into a family of rose growers, and is part of the Hungarian minority of Serbia. In 2003 he made his debut as a poet and since then has published both poems and short stories. In 2010 he began writing his first novel, A dögeltakarító [The Carcass Remover] (Magvető, 2015), which took the Miklós Mészöly Prize. His second novel, A rózsákról [On Roses] (Magvető, 2021), was shortlisted for the independent Libri Prize in Hungary. He still works cultivating roses.
