Valeriia Temkina

Valeriia Temkina is a playwright, writer and history researcher. The themes running through her work are often located between reality and fiction, exploring the world of folktales, myths, and legends. In 2022, she received a scholarship from the Union of Theatrical Figures for Talented Creative Youth. Pro Helvetia granted her in 2023 an individual research residency in Switzerland to study the “Verdingkinder,” the children who were placed with peasant families to work as farmhands in a program that ran from the early 19th century to the middle of the 20th. Her plays have been staged at numerous venues, including the City Theater of St. Petersburg and the Moscow Regional Puppet Theater.
