Biography
Sephora Vallotton was born in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, into a half-Swiss, half-Italian family. Her interest in civilizations of the Middle East led her at the age of nineteen to leave Europe in order to travel and learn Hebrew, Arabic, and Persian. She went on to earn a Master’s in Arabic and Persian from Ca’Foscari University in Venice, subsequently specializing in literary translation at INALCO (the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations) in Paris. Focusing now on Iranian, Afghan and Tajik literature, she is also a member of the editorial board of the review Café, which uses translation to highlight minority languages and literatures.
