Biography

Sean Gasper Bye is a full-time translator of Polish literature into English. He focuses on contemporary fiction and reportage, including works by Małgorzata Szejnert, Szczepan Twardoch and Mikołaj Grynberg. His translations have been nominated for numerous awards and he has won the EBRD Literature Prize. He worked as an events curator at the Polish Cultural Institute New York, served as the Translator-in-Residence at Princeton University, and mentors emerging translators. He lives in Philadelphia. Notable translations include Mikołaj Grynberg’s I’d Like to Say Sorry, but There’s No One to Say Sorry to (The New Press); Remigiusz Ryziński’s Foucault in Warsaw (Open Letter); and Małgorzata Szejnert’s Ellis Island: A People’s History (Scribe).
