Biography
Rich Benjamin is an American investigator, observer, cultural translator and author. His work mainly deals with the question of power through an anthropological and political prism. He has published notably in The New York Times and The New Yorker. His first book, Searching for Whitopia: An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America (Hachette Books, 2009), was selected for an Editor’s Choice Award from the American Library Association. His essay Talk to Me: Lessons from a Family Forged by History (Pantheon Books, 2025) combines family trauma and government records, personal research and political analysis to shed light on a story that has played out between Haiti and the United States.
