Biography

Rich Benjamin is an American investigator, observer, cultural translator and author. His work mainly deals with the question of power through an anthropological and political prism. He has published notably in The New York Times and The New Yorker. His first book, Searching for Whitopia: An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America (Hachette Books, 2009), was selected for an Editor’s Choice Award from the American Library Association. Talk to Me: Lessons from a Family Forged by History (Pantheon Books, 2025) combines archival research, cultural criticism, political analysis, and lyricism to shed light on a global history between the United States and Haiti, as well as the author’s harrowing family story.
