Biography

Menno Schilthuizen, born in 1965, is an ecologist and evolutionary biologist. He holds a position as senior scientist at Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Leiden, the Netherlands, and as professor for evolution and biodiversity at Leiden University. In addition, he is an active popularizer of science, focusing on understanding the evolution and ecology of urban nature. His recent book Darwin Comes to Town: How the Urban Jungle Drives Evolution (Quercus, 2018) has been published in thirteen languages and helped to create worldwide enthusiasm and appreciation for urban nature.
