Biography
Born in Port-au-Prince, the novelist, short-story writer, poet, and essayist Louis-Philippe Dalembert lives and works in Paris. Written in French and Haitian Creole, his work has been translated into a dozen languages. The great majority of his books have been brought out by the French publisher Sabine Wespieser. His body of work includes Avant que les ombres s’effacent (2017; the Prix Orange du livre and short-listed for both the Prix Médicis and the Grand Prix du roman of the French Academy), Mur Méditerranée (2019; the Prix de la langue française and short-listed for the Prix Goncourt des lycéens), Cantique du balbutiement (2020; the Prix François Coppée of the Académie française); and Milwaukee Blues (2021; shortlisted for the Prix Goncourt). Published in 2023, his latest book is titled Une histoire romaine. Three of his titles are available in English, The Other Side of the Sea (University of Virginia Press, 2014), Mediterranean Wall: A Novel (Schaffner Press, 2021), and Milwaukee Blues (Schaffner Press, 2022).
