Biography

Katya Apekina is a novelist, screenwriter and translator. Her novel, The Deeper the Water the Uglier the Fish (Two Dollar Radio, 2018), was named a Best Book of 2018 and was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Award for First Fiction. It has been translated into French, German, Spanish, Catalan, and Italian. She translated poetry and prose from Russian for Night Wraps the Sky: Writings by and about Mayakovsky (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2008), which was shortlisted for the Best Translated Book Award. Born in Moscow, Russia, she currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
