Biography

The poet, writer, and journalist Kato Javakhishvili was born in 1979 in Tbilisi, Georgia. She is the author of six poetry collections and two plays, and has won several literary competitions. Her poems have been translated into a dozen languages and have been included in a variety of anthologies. Her writing draws notably on her long research touching on the Democratic Republic of Georgia (1918-1921), as in her play Where Is Andreika?, which deals with the occupation of Georgia by Soviet Russia. She is also involved in a number of cultural and educational initiatives.
