Kathryn Scanlan holds a degree in Painting, Writing, and English from the University of Iowa and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the author of The Dominant Animal, named a Best Book of 2020 by The Guardian, Southwest Review, and Publishers Weekly; and Aug 9—Fog, praised in a starred review by Publishers Weekly as “an outstanding debut, profound and moving.” In 2021, she received an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award for “exceptional accomplishment in literature.” Her novel Kick the Latch has been published by New Directions in the US in 2022 and Daunt Books in the UK.
