Biography
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1987, Julia Sanches holds a BA in English Literature and Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh, and a MA in Comparative Literature and Literary Translation from the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona. She has translated nearly twenty books of fiction and nonfiction from the Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan into English. She has received support for her work from the PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant, PEN Translates, and the New York State Council of the Arts, and is the winner of the 2022 PEN Translation Award. She is also the foreign rights director of Tilted Axis Press and sits on the Council of the Authors Guild, where she advocates for better working conditions for literary translators.
