Biography

The Polish novelist, translator, playwright, and screenwriter Ignacy Karpowicz was born in 1976. In 2006 the publishing house Czarne released his debut novel Niehalo, which was nominated for a Polityka Passport, the annual Polish cultural award presented by the weekly magazine Polityka. In 2010, one of Poland’s most respected publishing houses, Wydawnictwo Literackie, brought out his next novel Balladyny i romanse, which won him a Polityka Passport. His latest novel, The Sky People, earned him his fifth Nike Award nomination. His books have been translated into several languages. He was given the title of Honorary Ambassador of the Podlaskie Province. His novel Gestures (Dalkey Archive Press, 2017) was translated by Maya Zakrzewska-Pim.
