Biography

With Swiss, Italian and English roots, the visual artist Gabriella Zalapì is a graduate of the Geneva University of Art and Design. Combining writing, painting, and drawing, she is developing an experimental body of work, drawing on family records and press images for the materials she employs in her art. A number of elements come together at the heart of her work, questions of identity, exile, language, the relationship between written and the visual, viewers’ place in documentaries, and the construction of collective memory after a conflict. Antonia, her first novel, was published by Éditions Zoé in 2019 and has been awarded both the Madame Figaro Grand Prix de l’héroïne and the Prix Bibliomedia in 2020. Her latest book, Willibald, was also published by Éditions Zoé in 2022.
