Biography

Chia-Lun Chang was born and raised in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Today the poet and author lives and works in Brooklyn, where she teaches hybrid poetry at the Poetry Project. She speaks Mandarin as her first language, but upon arriving in the United States she began studying English seriously and now uses it in her work as a tool for graphic and literary exploration. In 2021, she won the Nightboat Poetry Prize for Prescribee (Nightboat Books, 2022). It was through this collection’s language that she sought to grasp her immigrant experience and redefine the history of Taiwan. She is also the author of One Day We Become Whites (No, Dear, 2016), An Alien Well-Tamed (Belladona*, 2022), and Sinkable Notion (After Hours Editions, 2024).
