Biography
Barbara Engelking was born in 1962 in Warsaw. She is a professor of social sciences and the director of the Polish Center for Holocaust Research at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. She is the author or co-author of numerous scholarly articles and ten books about the Holocaust, including The Warsaw Ghetto: A Guide to the Perished City (Yale University Press, 2009), for which she was awarded the Jan Karski & Pola Nirenska Prize in 2013; and Night Without End: The Fate of Jews in German-Occupied Poland (with Jan Grabowski, Indiana University Press, 2022). In 2021, she received the Irena Sendler Award for a lifetime of scholarly work and research.
